Welcome Kevin

Kevin Telin

We are delighted to welcome Kevin Telin to UHT. Kevin will join the Project Design Team as Design Engineer.

Kevin Telin has always had a passion for technology, particularly cars. The interest began with a fascination with Formula 1 cars as a child in Hong Kong, but it exploded, he claims, when the family moved to the northern part of Sweden.

“We had so much more space and I was able to work on mopeds and cars. I took them apart and tried to understand how they worked. Since then, I usually have some kind of car or vehicle restoration project going on.”

The interest in technology has also been instrumental in his choice of mechanical engineering studies at Umeå University. Kevin describes his time in Umeå as inspiring, and it was there he first got a glimpse into the world of steelmaking.

“I had a professor who was very enthusiastic about material science, and he made me interested in the subject as well. That is one of the reasons why I started to look for work in the field and how I came across UHT. It seemed like an interesting company that combines deep knowledge of steel processing with mechanical engineering.”

At UHT, Kevin now works as a Design Engineer in a tight team of mechanical engineers who collaboratively develop mechanical design, from basic layouts to detailed manufacturing drawings of complete AOD and CLU® converters and GRANSHOT® plants.

“The scale and size of the designed equipment can be difficult to grasp at first,” Kevin says. “It has therefore been very valuable for me to see the equipment in the workshop in order to gain a clearer understanding, from the design concept on the screen to the finished product”

Besides Kevin’s great interest in cars and restoration projects, he also finds time for his girlfriend and taking care of their dog. By chance, they live close enough to the UHT office that Kevin can ride his bike to work, which suits his active lifestyle.

“I have always been involved in sports like tennis and rugby. Maybe I’ll be able to find a rugby team to join in Stockholm, something I haven’t done since we moved to Sweden from Hong Kong.”
