Welcome Soumia

We welcome Soumia Amara, our new Quality and Environment Manager, to UHT. With a passion for sustainability and extensive professional experience in the HSEQ field, she will further develop UHT’s quality and environmental management system with a focus on continuous improvement.

“I’m passionate about the environment and sustainability, and about helping companies reach their sustainability goals,” says Soumia Amara, UHT’s new Quality and Environment Manager. And there is no doubt that HSEQ issues are close to her heart.

Soumia’s interest started early during her industrial management studies in Algeria, where she decided to focus her master’s studies on quality and sustainability. She began her professional career in the industrial sector, gaining experience in the HSEQ field across a variety of areas, ranging from the textile industry to local government.

When Soumia’s husband was offered a position in Sweden, she eventually decided to move there as well. After spending a few years learning Swedish and raising their young children, she decided to continue her studies in the HSEQ field and completed a second master’s degree in chemical engineering at KTH. Her master’s thesis focused on chilled ammonia processing for post-combustion CO2 capture in the steel industry.

“Decarbonisation is one of our most important challenges right now, and I find it very inspiring to explore new technologies aimed at tackling climate change and reducing energy consumption.”

Before joining UHT, Soumia worked with HSEQ in the rail industry and as a sustainability consultant. She is now committed to contributing her knowledge and experience to UHT.

“Quality, environment, and occupational health and safety are all connected. My job is to ensure that they all become an integral part of everyday work, and I enjoy helping companies focus on continuous improvement that generates real value and helps them reach their goals.”

Soumia adds that working at UHT also gives her the opportunity to learn more about metallurgy and the steel industry, which urgently needs new solutions to significantly lower its carbon emissions and impact on the climate.

“I have a holistic perspective on climate change where society, industry, and we as individuals all must contribute to find a sustainable way forward.”

Soumia’s passion for the environment is also reflected in her love of nature, one of the things she particularly appreciates about living in Sweden. She finds long walks and bike rides in the Swedish forests energising and something she truly cherishes, but her number one priority is spending as much time as possible with her husband and their three boys.
