Non-ferrous alloys
The high value of non-ferrous alloys such as copper, cobolt, and silver demands a casting technology with a high yield and a product suitable for further processing. GRANSHOT metal granulation is used to produce granules with properties optimised for different applications.
A decarbonised future requires optimised non-ferrous products
Electrification drives high demand
Decarbonisation transition
The global reduction of carbon emissions in all industries puts pressure on securing supply chains of non-ferrous metals needed for the decarbonisation transition of the energy and road-transportation sectors. The move from fossil fuels to electrification for the transport sector also drives the demand for non-ferrous metals to the battery industry.
Copper foil production and challenges
The demand for high grade copper foil has significantly increased for producers of batteries and electronic devices. Electrodeposition of copper into thin foil requires a low bulk density raw copper material with optimal surface to mass ratio that can be processed easily.
Optimised non-ferrous granules for different applications
Copper granules with low bulk density
Granulating copper with the GRANSHOT® process generates granules with a large surface to mass ratio. The low bulk density of the copper granules provides excellent features for copper foil production and is a cost effective alternative to shredded cathode copper. The properties and the shape of the granules make them well suited for handling, transport, storage, feeding, and dosage.
Pre-studies in pilot metal granulation plant
At the UHT pilot GRANSHOT® plant, we perform test granulations of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. With a team of metallurgists and experienced operators, UHT provides in-depth pre-studies of granulation of specific metal grades, as well as evaluation and optimisation of the granulated product’s properties with full customer integrity and ownership of material and results.
