Sandvik Gas Mixing Station
20% more gas flow with new gas mixing station at SANDVIK, Sweden.
On August 12, 2011, Sandvik Materials Technology in Sandviken, Sweden, started a new gas mixing station from UHT. The delivery included automation for process control and it is now possible to operate the AOD process with 20% higher gas flow with the existing tuyeres and current gas pressure which allows for shorter processing times.
The new gas mixing station also permits a more precise control of the nitrogen content of the steel since nitrogen and argon gases may be mixed in desired proportions.
By the UHT concept for complete, factory-built and pre-tested gas mixing stations together with extensive knowledge of automation, process metallurgy and instruments, the project was delivered five months after ordering while commissioning took place without any disruptions of the stainless steel production.
UHT is a Swedish engineering company that delivers complete AOD and CLU converter refining systems and key components to producers of stainless steel products and ferroalloys.
