Welcome Frank

We are pleased to welcome Frank Grundin to UHT! Frank has extensive experience in designing and implementing testing frameworks for software development and is a key contributor to the UTCAS team.

Frank Grundin’s professional life has always revolved around software testing and testing frameworks across multiple industries. He started his career at Ericsson and Tieto with integration testing and troubleshooting, before joining Altran where he worked with consulting and test leadership for various projects.  Frank then continued his journey as technical test leader for secure digital communication (SDK) in the Swedish public sector at Nordic Medtest.

“A colleague recently described my role with the famous Bruce Lee quote “be water”, and I think he had a point. Test leadership requires flexibility, and you act as an interface between different disciplines and have to adapt to different circumstances – just like water.”

For the past year, Frank has been a consultant at UHT before starting his new role at the company as Lead Software Development Engineer in Test.

“The steel and metal industry is new to me, and it strikes me that there is a high level of complexity in steelmaking with many metallurgical and technical variables that we have to consider when developing our process control system UTCAS.”

Adding to this complexity, UTCAS client applications are tailor-made for each customer, and Frank is now developing a new testing framework and environment with automated deployment to ensure the best possible quality assurance.

To gain a deeper understanding of the practical use of UTCAS, Frank joined the team for the commissioning of UTCAS at a stainless-steel plant in the USA. He has also since had a coordinating role with a focus on quality assurance during another commissioning in Brazil.

“When you are on-site you are able to build valuable relationships with the customer which facilitate continued remote collaboration.”

Software development is also a personal interest for Frank. Together with his colleague Håkan Sjöström he has developed a VR-game, B.U.G. Force, in his spare time. Frank says it was a lot of fun but also many long hours before they could release the game on Steam.

Being a gamer at core, Frank enjoys everything from computer games to simple board games with friends and family, but he also likes the outdoors.

“My mother and three of my siblings with their families live in the northernmost part of Norway and I try to go there every summer. Up there you can find pure wilderness without any people, and I have done a few magical hikes kayaking down streams and trekking across the vast alpine tundra.”
