GRANSHOT® Metal Granulation installed at Boliden, Sweden
UHT, Uvån Hagfors Teknologi AB, finalised in October 2012 the commissioning of a GRANSHOT® metal granulation unit at Boliden’s Rönnskär facility in Sweden.
The GRANSHOT® installation is a part of Boliden’s investment to increase its annual capacity of electronic scrap recycling from 45,000 tonnes to 120,000 tonnes for production of gold, silver and copper.
Recycling of electronic scrap is increasingly important in today’s society due to the extensive use of electronic products throughout the world in combination with shorter product lifecycles and stricter legislation. The EU WEEE directive (Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment) states that a minimum of 4 kg electronic scrap per inhabitant will be collected and sorted each year, a requirement that may rise to 13-16 kg in 2016.
UHT is a Swedish engineering company and world-leader in metal granulation with the GRANSHOT® process. Boliden selected this process for its ability to offer highly efficient handling at a high capacity, 120 tonnes/hour, while fulfilling environmental requirements.
UHT delivers GRANSHOT® units with a capacity of up to 300 tonnes/hour and has currently built close to 50 granulation units for several metal applications, such as iron, steel, stainless steel, ferroalloys and copper.
