Global Project Management at UHT: From Mechanical Design to High-Capacity Granulation
Could you describe your role here at UHT? What does an ordinary day look like?
I am one of the project managers here at UHT. My role involves a lot of planning and coordination of people and various tasks from engineering to procurement and manufacturing to commissioning and start up. A normal workday consists mainly of gathering and sorting information to get the project to run smoothly. As project manager, I also do a lot of traveling to customers around the world for meetings, inspections, and follow-ups.
Why did you decide to join UHT?
I liked that UHT worked in an exciting industry that was new to me, and with interesting processes and technological applications that I was curious about. I started out here as a mechanical engineer designing in SolidWorks, where I did everything from modelling, basic studies and general assembly drawings to detailed engineering. I also did inspection drawings and manuals for installation, maintenance, and operations. Having experience with the mechanical design challenges that we face has now given me a solid ground as project manager.
What drives and motivates you in your work?
I mainly like the variation in my work – every project is unique with new challenges! Another thing that I really enjoy is that I get to work closely with people from so many different cultures around the world. It is motivating to meet people from for example India or China and learn more about their culture and understand their perspectives. Another driving force is having a good team around me, and it is nice to work with colleagues with different skills and generate a successful project from start to ending together.
What’s next – do you have any exciting projects?
We are just at the beginning of a big high-capacity granulation project for large scale production of granulated pig iron. So, at the moment I am really looking forward to producing a great engineering package together with my team.
