By implementing a converter downstream of the reduction furnace it is possible to broaden the product range significantly. In this paper some process alternatives and their economical, practical and environmental implications are studied using process models developed based on UHT’s long experience in stainless steelmaking, stainless steel process control and charge chrome refining.
