Jörgen Engström – with a passion for programming, creativity, and the environment!
We welcome Jörgen Engström to our team of UTCAS® software developers. Together with the rest of the team, Jörgen is involved in software development, updates, and new site installations of UTCAS steel production management systems.
The team is located at UHT’s office in the steelmaking town of Hagfors in western Sweden. Some might be surprised that a small town like Hagfors is the centre for development of premium process control systems to the steel industry world-wide. Others, like Jörgen, might not be so surprised.
– I grew up in Hagfors, this is where I got my first computer on which I started programming in my early teens. As a kid I was involved in LAN-sessions that the town organised, and I developed webpages to facilitate the sessions. I was also encouraged to create games, make graphic design and animations.
He continued to study computer science at Chalmers University of Technology and stayed in Gothenburg for a few years before returning to Hagfors. Jörgen describes working at UHT as flexible and he enjoys working as a team in close collaboration with his colleagues. He is also able to develop his artistic side and has made animations and graphic design for the user interface of newly developed modules in UTCAS.
– When I have the opportunity, I also make acrylic paintings. It has mostly been Sci-Fi or portraits, but I would also like to draw landscapes.
Jörgen continues to say that he enjoys living close to nature and the surrounding forests of Hagfors. He is passionate about both programming and the environment, which has led to several projects at home such as mobile solar panels that follow the sun during the day aiming to charge his electrical bike.
– I really like developing technical solutions that have environmental applications, Jörgen concludes.
